Have you ever dreamed of being a writer but felt like your ideas just can’t make it on to the page? Creating stories is a sacred act. We grab the invisible and weave it into words, adding meaning, capturing the hearts of readers and changing ourselves in the process. AND, it can be a challenge to learn how to weave unseen into visible form. An understanding of the elements (air, fire, water, earth and spirit) and their dynamic play helps to get our words onto the pages so we can share the unseen magic in our hearts. When this happens, it is pure magic.
The Magical Elements of Writing is a 6-week self-study online course for those who would like to explore their writing through the lens of air, fire, water, earth and spirit. In this six week course, we will journey through the five elements as they relate to your writing. We begin with a blank sheet in the element of air: capturing inspiration, beginning with optimism and cultivating creativity. Next, we work with fire: igniting your passion for your work, creating a disciplined practice and encouraging magnetism in characters. Water brings in evocative emotions, powerful description and refines the heart of your work while leaving space for exploration. Earth lends us strong plot structures, kind editing tactics, and patient revisions.
And of course, as artists, we must leave space for the unexpected; the fifth week of the course (dedicated to spirit) allows time for us to integrate, polish, change our minds, scrap the whole draft, and/or elaborate in a wildly new direction. This is the week you will receive extra support with a 30-minute, individual, live writing coaching session with Eila to discuss your work.
Finally, every story is meant to be shared aloud. The sixth week culminates in a beautifully woven process of self-discovery and some open-hearted story time.
This is a playful journey into the depths of the creative process. Shall we begin?
